New First Contact Physiotherapy Service Launched!

Central Health has launched yet another new First Contact Physiotherapy (FCP) service, this time on behalf of the Derby City South Primary Care Network.

This is the third FCP service Central Health has been responsible for introducing in Derbyshire, having delivered similar patient offerings for both the Greater Derby Primary Care Network and the Derby City North Primary Care Network recently.

This new FCP service for Derby City South will operate from the PCN’s Wellbrook Medical Centre in Hilton and Willington Surgery in Willington.

Central Health has already installed First Contact Physiotherapists to deliver the new service, and clinics are building rapidly.

A First Contact Physiotherapist is an experienced, fully qualified and senior Physiotherapist, who specialises in musculoskeletal problems

The role of an FCP is to work as part of the multi-disciplinary healthcare team, and be available to assess, diagnose and recommend appropriate treatment or referral for musculoskeletal (MSK) problems, without a patient being required to see a GP in the first instance.

A FCP will therefore speed up a patient’s access to care and ultimately progress the management of MSK conditions by being able to refer patients to an appropriate treatment pathway, such as further investigations or a course of physiotherapy, whilst also offering self-management advice and rehabilitation exercise programmes.

Patients with MSK conditions can self-refer or be booked in to see an FCP by a GP receptionist, GP or via individual GP Surgery online booking systems.

Central Health specialise in the rollout of First Contact Physiotherapy, and is working with PCN’s across the UK to deliver this vital patient service.
