Central Health Network is currently working with PCNs across the UK to deliver new First Contact Primary Care Health Services, which help to reduce GP workloads, cut waiting lists and improve patient access to specialist care.
First Contact Physiotherapy has led the way in this space so far, and due to the success of its roll-out the Primary Care sector is now moving quickly to deploy First Contact Practitioners in other areas of specialist care where demand is high.
One of those areas of specialist care is Mental Health, and at Central Health Network we have immediate opportunities for First Contact Mental Health Occupational Therapists.
Working within a PCN setting, the role will involve being the first point of contact for GP patients presenting with requiring assessment, support and management of a wide range of mental and physical health issues.
Functional needs of patients presenting with mental health problems will need to be addressed and supported, and this may include providing a pathway to high levels of psychological care for issues such as elderly care, dementia and child mental health.
First Contact Mental Health Occupational Therapists can now also expect to be dealing with post Covid-19 related issues, and this may see support required for patients to return to community activities and the workplace.
Working effectively as part of a PCN multi-disciplinary healthcare team in a patient facing role to assess and treat patients using expert knowledge is essential in this role
Successful candidates will be existing and experienced Mental Health Occupational Therapists, who are looking to progress their career by moving into this area of First Contact practice.
They will hold a relevant Registered Professional Qualification, have experience of working in an acute, community mental health or social care setting, and possess the ability to manage a caseload of clients with complex needs as an autonomous practitioner, using evidence based/client centred principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions.
