Shockwave therapy, a relatively new ‘treatment’ certainly in the UK, is MAKING WAVES!
Shockwave therapy, as the name implies, delivers a clinical shockwave to the body part being treated. It delivers a computerised pre-programmed and/or clinician led shockwave treatment that can be used for many musculoskeletal problems, such as:
Tennis & Golfers elbows
Achilles tendonitis
Rotator cuff tendonitis
Plantar Fasciitis
Heal Spurs

Shockwave therapy was developed for the treatment of musculoskeletal conditions after being used for gall and kidney stone shockwave treatment many decades ago. It is used for both acute and chronic musculoskeletal conditions and has relatively high success rate 60-80%, and is proving very effective for chronic (old, long term) musculoskeletal conditions as above.
Orthopaedic consultants use it but it is not readily available on the NHS currently.
