Race Ready Night Proves A Runaway Success!

RaceReady

Entrants in this year’s Central Health Derby10K were treated to an evening of free training advice, injury assessments, sports injury prevention tips and lots of sample treatments at a special Race Ready Event, held at Central Health’s main clinic and rehabilitation centre in Spondon on Thursday 25th February 2016.

On a busy evening, Derby10K runners were keen to meet with Physiotherapists, Podiatrists, Osteopaths and Sports Masseurs from event sponsors Central Health, who were all on hand to answer questions and address a wide range of issues in order to help entrants prepare properly for this year’s race.

Popular throughout the night was discussion about Gait Analysis and Orthotics, where the mechanics of running efficiently are concerned, whilst several entrants arrived with running specific injuries that were assessed and had treatment plans prepared for. The Sports Massage on offer was also very popular, with some runners trying it for the first time and stating how they could see already how regular sessions would be of benefit.

There was also good and bad news for two runners, who leading Central Health Podiatrist, Adnan Nazir identified had stress fractures to the foot and ankle. Bad news of course in the short term, but good news that they won’t now cause any further damage and have both been referred for further assessment and treatment!

Commenting on the event, Kevin Huffington of Central Health said:

“It was great to see so many runners turn up at the race ready evening, and for the Central team to play a role in helping many of them towards getting on that Derby10K start line in the best possible shape! I was personally encouraged to hear lots of questions about injury prevention, which suggests we take our running seriously in Derby, and we were delighted to provide all those who asked with bespoke strength, stability and flexibility programmes. It was also great to see the team from race organisers, Sporting Futures here and on hand to provide that all important race day information, and generally help in putting on what turned out to be a successful event”

The Central Health Derby10K takes place on Sunday 17th April 2016, and to enter please visit www.sporting-futures.org.uk/central-health-derby-10k
