Love Your Back

As we enter February and get ready for Valentine’s Day, here’s 14 top tips from the experts at Central Physio on how to Love Your Back….and stay healthy and pain free!

  • Move More!

Exercise is key to the prevention and treatment of low back pain. Keep it simple, keep it regular

  • Keep Active when it Hurts!

Continue to move even when you have back pain (but don’t overdo it!)

  • Lose that Excess Weight!

Increased bodyweight means your back muscles have to work harder

  • Walk!

Go for a 20 minute walk every lunchtime at work. Simple!

  • Stretch it Out!

Stretch daily, first thing in the morning, at work, after exercise and before bed. Sign up to Pilates or Yoga classes

  • Lift Properly!

Bend your knees, not your back. Carry objects close to your body & never twist and bend at the same time

  • Fuel Up!

Maintain a healthy diet and drink plenty of water to stay hydrated

  • Break the Pain!

Reduce pain when it strikes so you can carry on being active. Hot and cold treatments and ‘active rest’ work well.

  • Work Well!

Set up your workstation correctly and remember to get up and move every 20-30 minutes

  • Sack It!

Carry loads in a rucksack and avoid carrying single sling bags.

  • Straighten Up!

Always maintain good posture – avoid slumping in chairs, leaning over desks and hunching shoulders

  • Hands On!

Consider a regular massage to help keep tight muscles at bay!

  • Listen More!

Listen to your body and learn to spot danger signs – be more proactive than reactive with your back pain
